What we collect
If you ask for the interpretation, your question is sent to OpenAI, word for word, together with the hexagrams you cast. OpenAI generates the interpretation from it, holds it for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, then deletes it, and does not use it to train models. We never see or store your question ourselves: there are no accounts and no database, and your reading disappears when you close the tab.
Casting happens entirely in your browser. If you don't ask for the interpretation, your question never leaves it.
If you send feedback, we receive your yes or no answer, any reason chips you tapped, your comment, the hexagrams you cast with their moving lines, and whether an interpretation was on screen when you rated it. Your typed question is not included.
Your IP address is used to count requests as a spam guard; those counters delete themselves within an hour.
What we don't do
No accounts. No selling or sharing your data. No ads. No analytics, no cookies, no cross-site tracking of any kind.
Your typed question is never included in feedback emails, and we never store it anywhere.
Where your data goes
- OpenAI receives your question and the hexagrams you cast, with their classical judgment texts, to generate the interpretation.
- Resend delivers feedback emails; what Resend keeps is governed by Resend's own policy.
- Gmail is where feedback lands: a personal inbox we operate.
- A hosted Redis database holds the hourly spam-guard counters, keyed by your IP address.
- Vercel hosts the site and, as any host does, sees request logs such as IP, URL, and timing; what Vercel keeps is governed by Vercel's own policy.
How long data is retained
- Your question and reading: never stored by us. OpenAI holds them for up to 30 days, then deletes them.
- Feedback emails: kept in our inbox until we delete them; there is no automatic schedule. Resend's own copies follow Resend's policy.
- Spam-guard counters: delete themselves within an hour.
- Hosting logs: follow Vercel's policy.
Your choices
If you'd rather your question never reach OpenAI, skip the interpretation or leave the question blank; the classical text works either way. Feedback is optional. If you'd like feedback you sent deleted, email us and we'll delete it.
Children
I Ching Silk is not directed at children, and you need to be at least 13 to use it. The reason is under eligibility in the terms below.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the effective date at the top. The current version is the one that applies.

What I Ching Silk does
I Ching Silk casts hexagrams with the three coin method, shows the judgment and image from the Wilhelm-Baynes translation, and can generate an interpretation connecting them to your question.
What this is not
Readings are for reflection and entertainment, not advice.
Nothing here is medical, legal, financial, or psychological advice.
No reading predicts an outcome, and no reading should be the basis for a decision with real consequences.
The interpretation is generated by a language model. It can be wrong, generic, or inconsistent between readings of the same hexagram.
No guaranteed outcomes
We make no promises about accuracy, insight, or results. A reading that lands well is a starting point for your own thinking, not a guarantee about anything.
Your responsibility
What you do with a reading is yours to decide, and how you act on it is your responsibility.
Because your question travels to OpenAI when you ask for the interpretation, don't type anything you wouldn't want a third party to hold, such as details that could identify or expose you or someone else.
Availability
I Ching Silk is free. If that ever changes, we'll say so before anything costs anyone. The app may change or be withdrawn at any time.
As is, no warranty
The app is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Use it at your own risk.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent the law permits, we're not liable for damages arising from your use of the app. Where liability can't be excluded, it's limited to the amount you paid us, which is nothing.
Indemnity
If your misuse of the app leads to a claim against us, you agree to cover the costs that result.
Eligibility
You need to be at least 13 to use I Ching Silk. That number comes from the third-party services behind the interpretation: OpenAI's API terms don't allow use by anyone younger.
Content
The app's own code and design belong to its operator. The classical text presented is the Wilhelm-Baynes translation of the I Ching, shown with attribution - no ownership is claimed over it.
Changes
We may update these terms, and meaningful changes get a new effective date at the top. The current version is the one that applies.
